v0.1.0 Demo available!
Nanocell Squad » Devlog
The first alpha demo for this project is finally available. This demo showcases:
- some basic player units and enemies
- core game mechanics
- 1 level location
- general look/feel of the game
My plan is to gradually add more features to the demo to make it a truly reflective vertical slice of what the final game will be. The current delivery order for these features is:
- Gene editing for unit upgrades (an exciting new mechanic that will hopefully be more engaging than standard upgrade trees)
- Character dialogue (currently there's little character stuff in the demo itself, so I want to add more in and also add the 'home' screen where players can speak to the different characters between levels, a bit like the Normandy in the Mass Effect series
- Map screen (a more typical RTS screen, but I need to put more thought into how this'll be done and how it impacts on gameplay and player decisions, like a good map screen should)
- Combat depth (there's already quite a bit of depth in the demo but not all of it is called out in the tutorial text)
The idea behind having an early alpha demo out there and playable was to start getting real player feedback as soon as possible, so as always the above could be influenced by what feedback I get.
It's nice to finally have a playable demo out there so I can see what people think of the game - so please do send me your feedback so you can help influence the game from early on in development!
